A mid-morning phone-in bomb threat today cleared the Prince Edward County Court House in Farmville and neighboring buildings as a precautionary measure. According to Prince Edward County Sheriff Wesley Reed, the phone call came in at 9:45 am. The sheriff’s department was assisted in its sweep of the court house by Virginia State Police, who were in bomb training exercises in Amelia county and brought 3 bomb sniffing dogs, and the Farmville Police Department. A thorough search of the complex revealed no explosives and the building and surrounding area was deemed safe by authorities just before noon.
