Using the popular television program “Duck Dynasty” as an example, Amelia County School Board member, Damon Moyer noted theres nothing to be ashamed of if you’re on the free lunch program, adding cast members on the show were on the free lunch program when they went to school and look how they turned out. The schools’ Director of Operations, Allen Vernon, told the Amelia County School Board at its meeting last week, (Nov. 11) that most of the money students owed for unpaid lunches has been collected, but those students with outstanding balances may qualify for the free or reduced lunch program, which would settle their debt. Nutrition Manager Annie Clay explained many students do not want to be identified or labeled as “needy’, because they receive free lunch, even though the program assures their privacy.
