A third DUI charge has landed one Appomattox woman in jail. Police say when they pulled over, 41-year-old Dorothy Anne Hernandez, April 8, 2012, in Appomattox County, near the intersection of Confederate Boulevard and Old Courthouse Road, she told them she was the designated driver, because her friend was more intoxicated than she was. Hernandez failed sobriety field tests and was taken into custody. Hernandez was sentenced to three years in prison but will only have to serve six months pending good behavior, and two years supervised probation upon release. As part of her sentence, Hernandez also was ordered to pay a $1,050 fine, a fraction of which will go toward the state’s trauma fund.
