ROAD CONDITIONS DETERIORATE OR IMPROVE DEPENDING UPON LOCATION

Motorists should use caution

VDOT – LYNCHBURG –Snow continues to fall across many locations in the Commonwealth of Virginia but location plays an important role in determining road conditions at this time.

As of 10:30 a.m., Route 56 in Nelson County was reported as in severe condition from Route 151 to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  There is significant snow in the area and numerous trees are down.  Downed trees are also blocking roads in Buckingham County at this time.

Major roads in the counties of Amherst, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, the rest of Nelson and Prince Edward are in moderate condition.  This means that there is snow or ice on major portions of the roadway.  Road conditions on major roads in the counties of Appomattox, Campbell, are in minor condition which indicates that there are isolated spots of snow, ice or slush, while major roads in Halifax and Pittsylvania counties are clear.

While conditions are expected to improve later today, any moisture left on roadways has the potential to refreeze during overnight hours and into early Thursday.
